A Colored Convention.--A -- A convention of the colored people of Tennessee assembled in Nashville on Monday last. Eighteen counties are represented. The number of delegates is sixty-six. An organization was effected on the first day but no business transacted.
According to the call, the political as well as the industrial and educational interests of the colored people were to be discussed. The delegates applied to the mayor of Nashville for his sanction and protection, which he promised, in such a manner, however, as to give them to understand that they had better let politics alone. The Press and Times reminds the members of the convention that they have the right to meet and discuss any subject they choose, and are not bound to ask any civil officer in Tennessee whether they may meet or not, or what subjects they shall consider, and advises them to talk politics by all means if they feel disposed. The Times' article concludes as follows: :
"The negroes are certain to be invested with the right of suffrage in this state within the next twelve months, in our humble judgment, and it is eminently right and and proper that they should consider this great question in a dignified, calm and lawful manner."
