GEORGIA.
A Colored Convention at Augusta. Augusta, GA., Oct. 7. -- A colored convention assembled here to to-day for the purpose of refuting the charges that the negroes intended an insurrection, and to determine what course is best for the colored race to pursue. About fifty delegates were in attendance. H. M. Turner, in a speech, attacked the weak General Government for its conduct to the colored people of the South. A resolution was introduced by Edwin Belcher thanking Judge Herschel V. Johnson, who tried the Washington county prisoners, for the right spirit of fairness and impartiality which he had displayed, and evincing an inflexible determination to the accord to the parties implicated a full measure of justice. A resolution was also offered

discountenancing and condemning lawlessness when and however manifested, and stating that mutual dependence of the two races in the South is so evident that promptings of interest, if no higher consideration, dictate the cultivation of amicable relations as the only road to true and permanent prosperity. A resolution was offered deprecating the appointment by the Administration of lukewarm Republicans and avowed Democrats to office in Georgia.
There was a great deal of discussion on emigration, Turner recommending Africa, and Belener and others remaining in the State, as all bitterness was dying away, and the rights of the colored man were coming to be respected. Adjourned till to-morrow.
