NASHVILLE. next. Nashville. A COLORED EMIGRATION CONVENTION.
NASHVILLE, May 19.—The — The colored people assembled in Convention in this city to-day for the purpose of considering and adopting measures for emigration to some other State. The Convention was composed largely of citizens of this county, with a few from Maury, Williamson, Rutherford, Macon, Sumner, Cheatham and Robertson, all adjoining counties. W. A. Sizemore was made permanent Chairman, and B. W. Holmes, Secretary, both of this county. After the introduction of voluminous resolutions and their reference to a committee, the Convention adjourned until to-morrow. During the sitting of the Convention maps and posters of western railroads were freely distributed. Many colored people of this State have been informed that they can get free transportation to Kansas, and forty acres of land and a year's rations on their arrival at their destination.
