CANDIDATES MUST HUSTLE.
The Colored Vote at the Coming Election Will Be Thrown as a Mass.
G. W. Boyden and Henry Collins, delegates to the general convention of the Afro-American League, held in San Francisco yesterday, returned to-day. The convention settled on a definite plan for the coming city elections in Stockton, Sacramento and Oakland, and Messrs. Boyden, Collins and I. B. Barton were appointed as a committee to look after political interests here.
Mr. Boyden said yesterday regarding the matter: "The colored people have come to the conclusion that they must not be divided or they can never gain their ends. We are, to be sure, in what is called a hopeless minority, but we hold a balance of power in many places. Heretofore we have been fighting in our own camp but propose to do so no longer. We have propose to do so no longer. We have nearly 300 votes in this city and that number if thrown in a body, which it will most likely be, in, may mean the defeat or election of a candidate."
Asked how the vote would be cast Mr. Boyden said that the party or set of candidates which would the best recognize the colored people would get their vote, so there will most likely be an unusual hustle this election for the favor of the Darktown contingent.
